(VOVWORLD) - The South-Central Region transmitting station of the Voice of Vietnam in Ninh Thuan province was officially inaugurated on June 16th. This is a major project to expand VOV’s radio coverage to reach people in the south central region and the East Sea.

VOV started building the transmitting station on October 13th, 2020, in Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province. After nearly three years of construction, it now relays VOV’s programs to people in the south central mountain and coastal areas, to fishermen in the East Sea, and to listeners abroad.
Le Ha Giang, Director of the transmitting station, said: “This is a medium-wave transmitter with the most advanced technology in Vietnam. The station has a capacity of 400 KW at a frequency of 1071 kHz and is ready to convert to digital radio using DRM technology following the global radio trend. It has two 95-meter high antenna towers.”
The station relays programs of VOV1 – News and Current Affairs – and VOV5 – a multiple language radio service – to Vietnamese listeners and foreign sailors aboard international ships crossing south central waters.
Fishermen and marine forces can now hear VOV’s programs on the sea as loud and clear as on the mainland.
Vu Hai Quang, VOV’s Vice President, said: “Fishermen often go fishing far offshore for months. There is no mobile signal. They cannot afford satellite television receivers to catch satellite TV programs. Their only chance is to receive long-range radio waves from the mainland. The South-Central Region transmitting station provides information on the economy, politics, culture, society, entertainment, science, and technology. Some people say that when they hear the Voice of Vietnam, they feel closer to the mainland.”
Chamaléa Thi Thuy, a National Assembly deputy for Ninh Thuận province, said the transmitting station shows the State’s care for the south central region, particularly its fishermen.
“Since VOV inaugurated the transmitting station, the local people are very happy. It conveys the latest information of the Party and State to people in Ninh Thuan and adjacent provinces. The fishermen who are working on the sea can get up-to-date information from the mainland.”
