(VOVWORLD) - Hau Giang province has, in recent years, focused on developing OCOP products associated with the national target program on new-style rural building. This has helped Hau Giang lead the region in turning out higher quality products and farm produce and improving the lives of rural residents.

The Tan Bach Nguyet facility of Ms. Tu Thi Nguyen Mai of Truong Khanh 1 hamlet, Phung Hiep district, which has been making confectioneries for 25 years, produces 10,000-15,000 pia pastry and various types of candy each month for the Mekong Delta market.
Last year Mai registered her family's pia cakes in the OCOP program in the hope of introducing them more widely. She said that since her pastry were recognized as a 3-star OCOP product, they have been selling in a greater volume.
“By participating in the OCOP program, our brand has reached more consumers. Our products are sold in supermarkets, are exported to foreign markets, and are winning the trust of more and more consumers,” said Mai.
In addition to developing new products, Phung Hiep district has worked with functional agencies to help businesses improve their product quality, packaging, and production processes.
Much attention has also been paid to trade promotion to expand markets, to using e-commerce platforms like Voso, Postmart, Shopee, and Lazada to sell products, and to protecting intellectual property rights.
Lots of Phung Hiep district’s products, especially OCOP items, have been distributed by large enterprises and supermarkets in OCOP value chains.
Vo Thi Phuong Trang, the owner of the Ut Tay traditional craft wine production facility in Tan Long A hamlet, Phung Hiep district, said they have had four items recognized as 4-star OCOP products at the province level and as typical products of the Mekong Delta region.
Trang told VOV, “As Ut Tay wine is made of rice and broken rice, Ut Tay has contributed to increasing the value of the local rice and to creating a circular production chain toward a green economy. Hopefully, Hau Giang agricultural products will reach a new development level with increased value.”

Thanks to the advantages of good soil and diversity of agricultural products plus support from the Hau Giang provincial government, the OCOP program has become a driving force for the development of enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities. Local OCOP products have been affirming their position in the market due to their quality and ability to meet customers’ increasingly strict requirements.
Hau Giang has recognized 278 OCOP products, including 92 4-star products and 186 3-star products. And product quality has significantly improved, an important step forward.
Hau Giang OCOP products are sold nationwide through supermarkets, department stores, and clean agricultural product stores. Some locally produced fruits are exported to the Middle East, North America, and Europe.
For sustainable development, Hau Giang province is attaching special importance to ensuring quality and design, and developing production processes that meet the highest global quality standards, including GlobalGAP and HACCP ISO 22000.
Ly Le Hoa, Deputy Head of the Economic Section of Long My town, Hau Giang province, said, “We intend to implement programs to link companies, businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities, form raw material areas, create products of consistent quality, create stable raw material sources, improve productivity, and generate more jobs.”
Hau Giang province will seek more investment in rural production, apply high-tech to production and processing, develop new products from locally available raw materials, and continue to cooperate with international organizations and experts in agriculture and processing technology to receive the most advanced techniques.
Breakthroughs in technology and creativity in production and processing will be the highlight of Hau Giang’s OCOP items, making the local economy grow sustainably.
