(VOVworld) –Despite global and domestic economic difficulties in recent years, Quang Ninh remains one of Vietnam’s provinces attracting many investment projects. It has led the northern region on the provincial competitiveness index.

Over the past 2 years, Quang Ninh has changed its ways of thinking and working to attract more investment and improve its competitiveness. This has helped Quang Ninh lure 130 delegations of foreign investors, including Las Vegas Sands of the US, Texhong of China, the RoK’s Aviation Corporation, Amata group of Thailand, and Vin Group of Vietnam who have recently conducted fact-finding tours to seek co-operation opportunities in Quang Ninh.
Quang Ninh has realized investment promotion activities by granting new licenses and adjusting licenses for 39 FDI projects with investment capital totaling more than 1 billion USD and for 205 domestic projects worth about 5.4 billion USD.
The efforts have also improved Quang Ninh’s provincial competitiveness index, last year advancing 16 places to rank fourth out of 63 cities and provinces. Quang Ninh ranks fourth out of 7 provinces in economic management quality in the fields of infrastructure building and administrative reforms. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said:
“The PCI reveals the province’s transparency and dedication to businesses. Quang Ninh has set an important direction – making 2014 a year to work with enterprises to implement a series of reforms and new models to support investors. I believe through these efforts, Quang Ninh will rise on the PCI list.”
At the conference, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai called for the province to build modern infrastructure to tap into its full potential.

At a recent conference on promoting investment and improving provincial competitiveness, Nguyễn Văn Đọc, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, said that since 2012 the province has carried out key master-planning relating to the development of the region, the province, tourism, personnel resources, and the environment. Now Quang Ninh has completed its masterplan for socio-economic development until 2020 with a vision towards 2030 which has been approved by the Prime Minister. Chairman Nguyen Van Doc says: “in the future, Quang Ninh will focus on three breakthroughs – urbanization, infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure, and administrative reforms. We have established public administration centers at provincial and district levels. We’ve also prioritized investment in personnel training to meet investors’ needs.”
The Prime Minister recently agreed to Quang Ninh’s piloting of a public administration center directly under the provincial People’s Committee. The plan is for Quang Ninh to apply management models on public leadership-private administration, public investment-private management, and private investment- public usage, operate economic, cultural, and educational institutions to serve the public, and mobilize various resources for development.
