Kim Bong carpentry village
(VOV) - The Kim Bong carpentry village is a popular site in the ancient town of Hoi An. The village was founded in the 15th century by a migrant from Thanh Nghe region. By late 16th and early 17th centuries the village’s craft had flourished to cover Hoi An trading port in glory. Many houses, pagodas and temples in Hoi An were erected by the skillful hands of Kim Bong carpenters and they were often invited by lords of the Nguyen Dynasty to work on different construction projects in the royal citadel.
The village was once on the verge of falling into oblivion during the wartime, but it had been restored to its former glory thanks to great efforts made by local authorities and artisans. Instead of building boats and houses like what they did in the past, local carpenters are now focused on producing handicrafts for tourists.
