Born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey, Whitney Houston almost seemed destined from birth to become a singer. Of her 600 music awards, she won 1 Emmy Award, 7 Grammy Awards, 31 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American music awards.

By the time she turned 15, she soon became an extremely sought-after teenage model, one of the first African-American women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine.
