Vietnam is full of energy with which to enter a new year full of many important events: the 85th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, the 40th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification, the 125th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, and 30 years of national renewal toward socialism. The faith of every Vietnamese was strengthened when Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pledged to continue increasing the Party’s leadership and fighting spirit and affirmed that national strength comes from people’s faith. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said cooperation, integration, and solidarity will be Vietnam’s external relations strategy.

93 million Vietnamese people in Vietnam and 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese will be asked to contribute opinions to Vietnam’s revised Civil Code. A number of laws will take effect this year, including the revised Law on Enterprises, the revised Law on Investment, and the Law on Real Estate Business. Vietnam will sign a number of free trade agreements and help establish an ASEAN Community this year. These things will spur Vietnam to step up institutional reform, opening of markets, and comprehensive integration to become an attractive investment destination.

Achieving sustainable growth and reducing the development gap with other countries in the region will continue to be Vietnam’s key tasks in the new year. Vietnam will focus on addressing shortcomings and weaknesses, recovering the economy to regain growth momentum, boosting industrialization, modernization, and international integration, and restructuring its growth model. Sustainable growth has been Vietnam’s strategic goal as it measures Vietnam’s strength in global competition and reflects Vietnam’s future image.

Vietnam has begun the second year of a 2-year tenure on the UN Human Rights Council and UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee. Tons of goods for exports have been loaded. Spring festivals are about to begin. The arrival of spring stirs the faith of each and every Vietnamese that Vietnam will continue moving forward.
