(VOVworld) - Activities to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of Vietnamese Students Day January 9 are underway across the country. 63 years ago, the Salvation Youth Union and the Saigon- Cho Lon Students Union mobilized more than 2,000 students, and teachers and 7,000 other people in HCM City to demand security for students and release detained students. They were brutally suppressed. Sacrifices of the students, especially of hero Tran Van On that day increased Vietnamese youths’ determination to fight the French colonialists. The 1st Congress of the Vietnamese Youth Union decided in February 1950 to observe January 1 as the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students and Youths. At its 5th Congress in 1993, the Vietnamese Students’ Association adopted January 9 as the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students.
