The railway line will start at Lao Cai Station (from its linking point with Hekou station’s railtrack in China) and end at Ha Long Station (part of the Kep-Ha Long railway line), for a total length of about 427 km. The project will require nearly 7.2 billion USD in total capital.

It will pass through 41 stations, as well as 10 provinces and cities of Vietnam, including Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh.

The project’s consultants recommended that investment for the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong section begin by 2030. The last section connecting Hai Phong and Quang Ninh will begin after 2030 in line with the investment roadmap of the Nam Dinh-Thai Binh-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh coastal railway, they said.

When completed, the project will meet the transport demand and connect national railway with seaports, industrial zones, and tourists attractions, thus contributing to Vietnam’s industrialization and modernization.
