(VOVworld) – The 8^th National Phu Dong Sports Festival wrapped up yesterday in Can Tho city after 20 days of active competition. This year’s festival brought together 6,600 athletes of 63 delegations  across the country to compete for medals in 19 events. The Ho Chi Minh city team came on top while the Hanoi and Can Tho teams ranked second and third.

This is the biggest sports event in Vietnam for students, who try to stay healthy through sports to contribute to national construction and defense. Professor Le Manh Hung, Vice Director of the Student Work Department of the Ministry of Education and Training said: "It is necessary to make people in charge of physical education at schools work more effectively. I urge educational institutions at localities to focus more on facilities for students’ physical training."

The Ministry of Education and Training presented banners to Nghe An and Dong Nai province, who will co-host the next National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2016.
