Cambodia’s media praises Vietnam’s help in Khmer Rouge downfall

(VOVworld) – The Pracheachon Newspaper of the governing Cambodian People’s Party on January 6th published an editorial underlining the significance of the joint victory of Vietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, which was declared on January 7th, 1979.

The piece said that 35 years ago, with the support of a Vietnamese volunteer army, the army of the Khmer United Front for National Salvation overthrew the regime, saving Cambodia from genocide.
It said that Cambodia is proud of its achievements and now plays an active role with equal status in the region and the world. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdec Hun Sen, the Cambodian Government gained a great triumph.
The article added that the victory of the Cambodian People’s Party in the 5th Parliamentary election last July allowed the party to continue its leadership for the next five years, showing that a majority of the Cambodian people still believe in the Party’s leadership.
The piece concluded by saying that Cambodian people from all walks of life and every generation will never forget the historical significance of January 7, 1979.
