(VOVworld) –Local and foreign scientists participated in a conference in Can Tho on Tuesday to review and plan the Closing Rice Yield Gaps in Asia project (CORIGAP I).

The conference was held within the framework of an agricultural competitiveness project sponsored by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Can Tho City, which aims to improve rice productivity and consumption in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta. During the 4-day event, participants will create plans to implement the project, focusing on large-field models, and visit potential cultivation models in Can Tho city.
CORIGAP is being implemented in Long An and Can Tho province from June, 2013 to 2016. With a goal of reducing poverty and promoting gender-equality, the project will develop advanced rice production models, use resources effectively and sustainably to ensure food security, and improve the living standard of people in Vietnam and Asia.
