Corruption is detected in Vinashin group

(VOVworld)- Anti-corruption related issues topped the agenda of the 6th session of the 13th National Assembly on Tuesday. According to the government’s report, 41 agency officials have been punished this year for irresponsibility in preventing corruption. So far this year, 80 cases of corruption have been detected involving 90 people and nearly 6 million USD. Half of that amount has been reclaimed. Government Inspector General Huynh Phong Tranh says the detection and prosecution of these crimes haven’t been carried out strictly enough. The same day, the deputies discussed reports on the draft laws on plant protection and quarantine, crime prevention and control, the performance of the Director of the People’s Supreme Procuracy and the Chief Judge of the People’s Supreme Court, and law enforcement this year.

The deputies heard a number of reports on crime prevention and law enforcement this year. They agreed that the quality of investigations has improved, more cases have been detected and dealt with firmly and many drug trafficking rings have been broken up. The deputies said, however, that greater attention should be paid to gangs, drug-related crime, juvenile delinquency and resistance to officers on duty. They noted a rise in the number of drug users, particularly among the youth. Hanoi deputy Nguyen Dinh Quyen said: “The National Assembly has issued Resolution 37 on crime prevention at all levels, which has increased pressure on the law enforcement agencies. We need to review the effectiveness of the Ministry of Public Security’s crime prevention programs. Crime prevention must be carried out in all areas such as transport, education, healthcare, and the environment. State management should also be strengthened to clarify responsibilities.”
