Environmental campaign launched in response to “Clean Up the World” initiative

(VOVWORLD) - An environmental protection drive kicked off in Hanoi’s Thanh Tri district on Sunday in response to the 2024 "Clean Up the World" campaign.

Nguyen Huy Toan, Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee, said  local authorities will plant 90 new trees at Chu Van An Park and encourage  residents to use resources wisely, recycle and reuse waste, sort solid waste at  source, and reduce waste.

The launch ceremony was followed by a series of activities including collecting garbage, cleaning roads, and planting trees at Chu Van An Park. There was also a cycling event to promote efforts to reduce emissions and combat climate change.

The “Clean Up the World” campaign was initiated by Australia and launched globally by the United Nations Environment Program in 1993 as a community based environmental campaign that inspires and empowers communities from every corner of the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment. It is observed annually in the third week of September.

More than 180 countries worldwide have responded to the initiative.
