Based on opinions given at the meeting, Prime Minister Dung agreed that to date, Vietnam’s policy on FDI attraction has not been suitable to the country’s practical situation and reveals many shortcomings. PM Dung said ‘We should have national consensus in our approach to lure FDI. In particular, we’ll not welcome projects with low-tech that can affect the environment, use much energy, and generate jobs only for manual labor. We should restructure the economy and change the growth model to increase competitiveness toward sustainable development.

Government members discussed a new proposal to handle bad debts facing credit institutions and a project to set up a state asset management company. The government also gave opinions on the Prime Minister’s draft decision subsidizing 23 poor districts. Under the decision they must apply policies pursuant to the government’s resolution on a program to support sustainable poverty reduction for 62 disadvantaged districts.
