(VOVworld) – A new ceasefire began Tuesday morning in southeastern Ukraine. All parties are hoping this truce will be kept after several previous failed truces.
The Day of Silence is an attempt to kick-start the Minsk ceasefire deal

The Kiev administration prepared for a meeting in Minsk with the contact group on Ukraine. Andrey Lysenko, an official spokesman for the National Security and Defense Council, said the objective of the Day of Silence is to give a start to the fulfilling of the Minsk agreements — that is, to begin the pullback of heavy weaponry, to release prisoners, to clear minefields, and to begin demilitarization of the region.
The outcome of the contact group’s meeting in Minsk remains doubtful. Not all parties have agreed to Kiev’s lifting economic sanctions against Donetsk and Lugansk, special status for the two regions, or amnesty for those participating in violence against the Kiev government.
