(VOVWORLD) - A flag-hoisting ceremony was held in Hanoi to mark the 57th founding anniversary of ASEAN, August 8.

The annual flag-raising ceremony on ASEAN's establishment celebration has become routine for all member states, honoring common values and commitments to promoting peace, cooperation, friendship, and contributions of the ASEAN community to regional cooperation and prosperity.

Chairing the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet, Head of the ASEAN Senior Official Meeting (SOM) delegation of Vietnam, said that the bloc has maintained peace and stability in a region that once was hit by wars and conflicts.
“We’ve built a highly integrated economic region with sustainable and inclusive growth which is agile and responsive to emerging trends. We’ve cultivated a people-centered society with an ASEAN community identity and spirit and a mixed global volatility and predictability conflicts and division,” Viet said.
He insisted, “ASEAN stands as a model for regional cooperation and integration. Today's ASEAN is guided by a strategic vision, is grounded in our unity, is leveraging our central role and driven by concrete actions.”
Viet took the occasion to emphasize Vietnam’s priorities to ASEAN, saying that ASEAN always has a strategic position in all of Vietnam's diplomatic activities. Vietnam pledges to continue working together with other member countries and partners to boost a peaceful and strong region, turning Southeast Asia into an area of peace, prosperity and stability, according to the Deputy FM.
