Japanese diplomat confident in Vietnam’s election to UN Security Council

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will have a good chance to win the election of five countries as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, head of the Japanese delegation to the UN Koro Bessho told the Vietnam News Agency ahead of the election scheduled for Friday.

The diplomat said Vietnam is a very important, close friend and strategic partner of Japan, which is why the two sides want to help each other in international issues. He said Japan looks towards Vietnam’s leadership in representing the point of view of regional countries. Bessho said Vietnam has a very important history of overcoming war and building peace and a bustling economy, and this will in turn earn Vietnam its status in the UN Security Council. He added that the experience will also help Vietnam provide good advice and input to the organization.
