VOV’s correspondent in the US interviewed Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, who is head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN. Mr. Quy is optimistic about the possibility of winning the vote. He said: “Until now Vietnam is the sole candidate representing Asia-Pacific. Vietnam has received written commitments by 100 countries and verbal pledges by about 40 countries to support it to becoming a member of the Security Council. We have a great opportunity to win in the coming vote.”
Ambassador Quy said if Vietnam becomes a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, it will immediately recommend initiatives during the two-year term.
