(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang urged localities to strictly enforce Resolution 4 of the Supreme People's Court's Council of Judges on prosecuting Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Mr. Quang emphasized at a preliminary review of the National Steering Committee on IUU Prevention in Hanoi that localities and agencies must rigorously implement the Resolution to address IUU violations, including imposing criminal sanctions when necessary. He said, "It's crucial to fully implement Resolution 4. If all 28 localities handle this issue decisively and effectively, we will present a compelling case to the EC's inspection team."
After four rounds of inspections, Vietnam has refined its legal framework to meet the EC's anti-IUU requirements, has improved the management and monitoring of its fishing fleets, and has stepped up enforcement of IUU laws and punishment of violations.
