Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung has welcomed Mexican Senate President Jose Gonzalez Morfin, who is leading a high-ranking delegation on an official visit to Vietnam. During Wednesday’s talks with President Morfin in Hanoi, Chairman Hung said Vietnam wants to expand cooperative relations with Mexico, especially in investment and trade. He said Vietnam is willing to serve as a bridge connecting Mexico and other ASEAN countries, and that the country hopes to boost cooperation with Mexico and other American nations. Chairman Hung proposed that Vietnamese National Assembly and Mexican Senate strengthen their friendship, contributing to promoting ties between the two governments and peoples. He said: "We should boost cooperation in trade, investment and other areas. Mexico is located in central America and Vietnam is an important member of ASEAN. So, cooperation between the 2 countries should be in line with cooperation between Latin America and Southeast Asia. We are members of APEC, which serves a foundation for us to strengthen regional relations. Both countries need to exchange experiences to develop cooperation and reduce poverty. The legislative cooperation will ensure the growing ties between the 2 nations."
President Morfin spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and hosting major political events in 2011. Both leaders agreed on the necessity to  adopt a cooperative agreement between the two legislative bodies and the establishment of an inter-governmental committee, which they said will lay a firm foundation for the development of Vietnam-Mexico relations.
