North-South high-speed railway will drive Vietnam’s development, says NA Chairman

(VOVWORLD) -Politburo and the Secretariat are very keen on the North-South high-speed railway project with an estimated investment capital of about 67 billion USD, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said, adding that it will create a new impetus for Vietnam's development.

Chairman Man presided over the National Assembly Standing Committee’s meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday to give opinions on the investment policy of the high-speed railway project and on adjusting the investment policy of Long Thanh International Airport project.
The Standing Committee agreed to submit to 8th session of the 15th National Assembly to decide the investment policy for the high-speed railway project, which will begin at Ngoc Hoi station in Hanoi, pass through 20 provinces and cities, and end at Thu Thiem station in Ho Chi Minh City. The route length is more than 1,500 km. Construction will start in 2027 and the entire route is planned to be basically completed by 2035.
According to the Government's submission, after the National Assembly approved the investment policy of Long Thanh International Airport project, the Government directed the compilation and approval of the phase 1 feasibility study report and the project is expected to be put into operation in 2025. National Assembly Chairman Man said he hopes that the Government will make efforts to reach the finish line six months ahead of planning phase 1, because this project is highly anticipated by voters and people.
