The fight against corruption in Vietnam saw remarkable progress in the 3rd quarter this year with decreasing corruption cases prosecuted or tried. This encouraging information was released at the 16th meeting of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption that convened in Hanoi Tuesday. Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged for early promulgation of regulations which spell out the responsibility of leaders of agencies where corruption is uncovered. He said:" In addition to administrative reform, a decree on transparency in agencies and organizations needs to be in place as soon as possible. Public supervision is the best way to combat corruption”. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested agencies to wrap up major cases from now until the end this year, including the scandal at state-owned Vinashin Business Group, which resulted in losses of billions of USD.
