(VOVworld) – The southwest region should quickly zone off areas for adapting to climate change and restructure the economy, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region, Vuong Dinh Hue, said Sunday at a conference in Can Tho City to review the Committee's 2016 and discuss plans for 2017.

He urged the locality to develop regional connectivity and value chains for the four key agricultural products of the region - shrimp, tra fish, rice, and fruit.

The Committee reported that the region’s economy grew 6.9% this year, better than the national average. This year’s targets are economic growth of 7.9%, total exports of 2.2 billion USD, and revenues of 3.4 billion USD.
