UN High Commissioner lauds Vietnam’s human rights achievements

(VOVWORLD) - UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Tuesday praised Vietnam’s role in UN mechanisms and its achievements in promoting and protecting human rights.

At a meeting with Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and other international organizations in Geneva, Ms. Bachelet said she hopes Vietnam will continue to contribute to the UN Council of Human Rights and sustainable development goals in Vietnam and the region. She said she hopes Vietnam will enhance its role as ASEAN Chair in 2020, in promoting cooperation between the UN High Commissioner’s Office and ASEAN.

Ambassador Mai informed her host about Vietnam’s policies and achievements in human rights protection. She said human rights is one of the focal issues of Vietnam’s 2013 Constitution and socio-economic development policies.
