Heads of delegations to the 20th ASEAN Summit

(VOVworld) – Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said Vietnam has actively contributed to the construction of an ASEAN Community. Addressing a press conference after the 20th ASEAN Summit closed in Cambodia on Wednesday, he said the Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung upheld its pledge ‘to be active and responsible’ in strengthening the bloc’s solidarity. Minister Minh says 'We proposed specific measures to implement a roadmap for the development of an ASEAN community by 2015 with a focus on projects for regional land transportation links, seaports, and narrowing development gaps among members. Second, we contributed to boosting the central role of ASEAN including current mechanisms, and the enhancement of cooperation with partner countries. Third, we recommended measures to strengthen the bloc’s role in maintaining regional peace and stability, especially in the East Sea. Finally, we suggested ways to use the Mekong River sustainably'.

The Vietnamese delegation contributed to compiling the summit’s documents which reflect the priorities of ASEAN and the region particularly in solidarity and the development of an ASEAN Community.
