Mr. Quy made the statement at a UN Security Council open discussion themed “Cooperation between the UN and Subregional Organisations: The Role of States, Regional Arrangements, and the UN in the Prevention of Conflict” on Thursday.

He said it’s necessary to underline the major responsibilities of relevant countries in preventing and settling disputes, adding that all countries should abide by international law, including during the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Mr. Quy said that the UN and regional organisations should play a key role in upholding and promoting common values, the norms of conduct, and principles of international law for the maintenance of good relations among countries.

He said the partnership between the UN and regional organizations should be promoted in politics, security, economy, culture, and society to jointly deal with emerging regional and global challenges.
