A “Joint communiqué of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Republic of Kiribati” was signed by Le Hoai Trung, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN, and Makurita Baaro, Kiribati Ambassador to the UN, at the office of the Vietnamese Mission to the UN in New York on Monday.
Vietnam-Kiribati diplomatic relations were formed in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and both sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at ambassadorial level.
The new diplomatic ties demonstrate Vietnam’s foreign policy of openness, diversification, and multi-lateralisation and will help improve bi-lateral co-operation to fulfill the shared aspirations of the two peoples.
