Vietnam not alone in East Sea issue: Russian experts
(VOVWORLD) - Russian researchers studying East Sea issues have condemned the Chinese coast guard’s sinking of a Vietnamese fishing vessel in the waters of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, saying the international community will support Vietnam.

Talking with Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Russia, Grigory Trofimchuk, Chairman of the Expert Council of the Eurasian Foundation for Support of Scientific Research, said China should exercise self-restraint and avoid such acts, and settle all issues through peaceful means.
He said the incident occurred amid rising uncertainties across the world, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which could worsen East Sea issues, adding that as the number of such incidents increases, researchers will continue to condemn them at international seminars and forums.
Trofimchuk said Vietnam is not alone in the East Sea issue, and he believes the international community will raise their voice to support Vietnam.
Professor Vladimur Kolotov of the Saint Petersburg State University agreed with Trofimchuk and advised countries to stay alert to escalating tensions in the East Sea as the COVID-19 pandemic grows.
