(VOVworld) – Vietnam will hold a number of activities to respond to World Environment Day 2013 on June 5th in Hue early next month. At a press conference in Hanoi today, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced a series of major activities such as a national meeting, a Vietnam Environment Awards Ceremony, and building a model of green tourism directed towards environmental protection. With the theme “Think. Eat. Save”, this year’s event is designed to encourage people to think about their impact on the environment through their food-selections and the way they consume food. Bùi Cách Tuyến is Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment: “This year, the UN called on people from around the world to make a joint effort to raise public awareness, so that we can take practical actions in every family, every super market, restaurant, and hotel, and anywhere else that we consume food every day. The ministry calls on the ministries, agencies, unions, and People’s Committees to respond to World Environment Day 2013, focusing on saving food.”
World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972. Vietnam has observed this event since 1982.
