Vietnam, US boost cooperation

(VOVworld)- Vietnam hopes to receive further support from the Rules Committee of the US House of Representatives in boosting ties between the two countries. At a reception for visiting Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier in Hanoi yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai praised Dreier’s support in granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) to Vietnam, which will significantly contribute to the development of trade ties between the two countries. He said he hoped for support for Vietnam in the US ’s early recognition of Vietnam as a market economy, giving it the generalised system of preferences and creating favorable conditions to boost goods exchange between the two countries. Dreier pledged to contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly in trade. He emphasized opportunities to deepen the economic relationship between the US and Vietnam amidst dynamic development in the Asia Pacific region, the creation of an ASEAN Community and prospects for a Trans Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement.

The same day, Dreier met National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan who affirmed Vietnam ’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, and diversification of relations, and being a reliable friend and partner and a responsible member of the international community. Ngan suggested that in the coming time the two parliaments increase the exchange of delegations and boost cooperation between their committees in the fields of legislation and supervision, thus strengthening understanding, building trust, and minimizing differences between the two nations.
