According to Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for National Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs Don Tuan Phong, since joining the IPU in 1979, the Vietnamese National Assembly has been an active and responsible member, initiating proposals and making substantial contributions to the IPU’s activities. Vietnam has held leadership roles within the IPU on multiple occasions, notably hosting the 132nd IPU Assembly in 2015 and the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians’ Conference in Hanoi in 2023.
Mr. Phong said: “The Vietnamese National Assembly has fully engaged in all major IPU activities, particularly the General Assemblies, where it has put forward ideas and initiatives to address global challenges. Vietnam has played a key role in promoting peace, cooperation, and development, including advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.”
At the IPU-150 forum, themed "Parliamentary Action for Development and Social Justice," the Vietnamese National Assembly will exchange insights and share development experiences with international parliaments, strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and seek external support and resources for national development. This will be an opportunity for Vietnam to contribute to strengthening multilateralism, international solidarity, and cooperation while elevating the role and position of the Vietnamese National Assembly within the global parliamentary community.
On a bilateral level, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s official visit to Armenia and Uzbekistan holds profound political significance, reflecting Vietnam’s respect for its traditional friendships with both nations and its commitment to deepening political trust. The visit aims to establish a strong foundation for enhanced cooperation in various fields, fostering stronger ties and elevating relations to new heights.
