(VOVworld) – At the same time with the memorial service for General Giap at the National Funeral House in Hanoi, the services were organized at the Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh city.

People in Ho Chi Minh city mourned General Giap at the Reunification Hall

In a solemn and sorrowful atmosphere of the funeral service in Hanoi, the Vietnamese anthem was played to bid farewell to General Vo Nguyen Giap. General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong, read the oration and other funeral rites were broadcast live on mass media.

In the Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh city, the organizing board installed many big screens for the public to watch the memorial service. People wept, showing their great esteem to the General who will rest in peace in his native province of Quang Binh.

Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Union, said: "Young people in the City always keep in our hearts the General’s sentiment for us. We pledge to follow the General’s path, continuously study, and improve our morality to fulfill our tasks, take the lead in all fields, and contribute to the city and national defense and development."

After the memorial service for General Giap, in the Reunification Hall and many other places in Ho Chi Minh city, people remained standing in line to burn incense for the General. The Reunification Hall will open until 15:00 for people to pay tribute to the General.

Many localities in the Mekong river delta organized funeral services for General Vo Nguyen Giap. People in Can Tho city watched the live broadcast from Hanoi to follow the commemoration. Major-general Le Thanh Son, hero of the People’s armed forces, former Head of the Can Tho Military Command, said: "The funeral service to take the General to his find resting place was a mournful day of the nation. I feel deep sorrow and grief."

The same day, a commemoration was held solemnly at the headquarters of the Quang Binh People’s Committee in Hung Vuong street, Dong Hoi city. Attended the funeral service were leaders of the provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee, People’s Council, Fatherland Front, sectors, and organizations, the General’s family members, comrades, and friends.
