At 8 p.m in a small coffee shop in Ta Hien street, Hanoi, members of “phuot.vn” are eagerly planning a journey. They share a passion for travel and photography. Everyone has experience exploring remote, isolated places, but this will be the first time they’ve teamed up on a 10-day trip during the New Year holiday. They suggest places and discuss the best schedule for exploring many places. Le Quang Luu says: “Ly Son island is beautiful. I came to Ly Son island before a storm and the sea was extraordinary. I’ve been to several islands but nowhere is as beautiful as Ly Son. The island is surrounded by white caps. It’s interesting to travel along Vietnam’s coastline visiting islands.”

Some of the people know the northern and western mountains very well. Others have good knowledge of the central region. Finally they agree to explore the 4 corners of Vietnam: the northernmost point in Lung Cu, Ha Giang province, the westernmost point in A Pa Chai, Dien Bien province, the easternmost point in Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa province, and southernmost point in Ca Mau province.

Team leader Nguyen Phong Phu said: “Almost none of the members have visited all four corners. I’ve been to the northernmost and westernmost points. We are told about the challenge of reaching the westernmost point - walking through sand hills, jumping on a stone plateau, and trekking through forests. People say it’s thrilling to sail a canoe on white-crested waves to the southernmost point. We’re determined to go around and touch the territorial markers. We’re proud and will love our country more.”

Nguyen To Nhu has lived in Canada for many years and has visited many countries. She says returning to Vietnam and traveling with Vietnamese friends has been a fantastic experience. “Scenic spots in Vietnam are as beautiful as many overseas places. We can go to Mau Son summit in Lao Cai in the winter to play in the snow. Those who love sand dunes can go to Ninh Thuan. A visit to Da Lat, dubbed the tiny Paris in Vietnam, is interesting. For me, the four corners of the nation are sacred places.”
In order to reach the 4 corners of Vietnam, the young people will pass through many localities and learn about their traditions and identities. The trip will surely enhance their love for their motherland.
