Lunar New Year get-togethers for Overseas Vietnamese
Da Nang city authorities on Wednesday hosted a get-together for Overseas Vietnamese returning home for Tet. Overseas Vietnamese have invested 40 million USD in the city, earning an export revenue of 10 million USD annually. Nguyen Van Chơi lives in the US: “I return to Vietnam every year and usually stay for 6 months. I’m very proud of my homeland”.

In China, the Vietnamese Embassy in China also held a get together for Overseas Vietnamese in Beijing to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon. Prior to the meeting, participants offered incense to Uncle Ho’s altar on the Embassy grounds. At the event, Vietnamese Charge d’Affaires Hoang Ngoc Vinh briefed the Overseas Vietnamese on Vietnam’s political and socio-economic situation and its relations with China. He emphasized that the Party and Government always attach great importance to the Overseas Vietnamese community and create favourable conditions for them to visit the homeland and participate in the cause of national construction and protection. Mr Vinh expressed his hope that the Overseas Vietnamese community in Beijing will make greater contributions to the homeland and become a bridge to closer friendship between Vietnam and China. A 80-year-old Vu Thi Nhan said she had noticed drastic changes during her recent visit to Vietnam: “The Vietnamese embassy in China always pays attention to overseas Vietnamese. We are very happy attending this meeting. I have recently visited Vietnam and I’m very happy with the homeland’s changes”.
