(VOVworld)- Politburo Member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong received in Hanoi on Saturday a delegation of persons with disabilities who are attending the 1^st National Singing Contest of Persons with Disabilities. Ms Phong praised efforts to assist the disabled to improve their lives, integrate in the community and promote their talents.

Also on Saturday, more than 1,500 representatives of agencies and organizations and disabled people participated in a walk around Hoan Kiem lake with the theme “For an integrated work for the disabled”. In her address, Politburo Member and Vice Chairwoman  of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said in 2010, the Vietnamese National Assembly ratified the Law for Persons with Disabilities. In October this year, a Resolution on the Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was approved. Ms Ngan said:“In order to realize policies and laws as well as international commitments and to practically assist the disabled, relevant state agencies need to fine-tune the legal system concerning persons with disabilities. It’s important to effectively implement regulations as well as policies to assist persons with disabilities both materially and spiritually. I hope that further charity activities will be carried out to better care for persons with disabilities”.

In Ho Chi Minh City, more than 7,000 persons with disabilities participated in a camping festival in Suoi Tien Cultural Park.
