(VOVworld) – A policy dialogue on increasing the participation of women and girls in social protection system was co-organized by United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, UN Women, and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs.

Addressing the event on Monday, Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen stressed the ultimate priority of building a social security system as part of Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy. The Vietnamese government has paid special attention to gender equality. A number of policies on gender equality have been issued to create a legal framework and favorable environment for gender equality practice in general and for social security in particular.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, promised that the organization continues to back Vietnam’s efforts to improve social security and equality.
Delegates discussed presentations on gender equality policies, job generation for women, the implementation of social security policies and social services, approaches to social security for women and girls, and prioritizing disadvantaged and vulnerable groups including poor women, women from ethnic minorities, and migrants.
