Prime Minister Dung said: "Vietnam has already had resolutions and laws on gender equality but the foremost tool is a change of awareness on the part of the community and Party committees at different levels. Achieving gender equality requires a sincere interest and coordinated measures, with the ratio of female leaders in political agencies being an important factor.
Dung expressed his belief that the female legislators together with the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Viet Nam will promote the fine tradition of Vietnamese women to overcome challenges, fulfill their tasks as peoples’ representatives, and make greater contributions to the National Assembly’s performance and the gender equality process.
According to President of the Vietnamese Women Parliamentarians Group Truong Thi Mai, the proportion of female National Assembly deputies is 24%. They have steadily increased their role and prestige, helping to boost gender equality and respect for women and children.
