UN reports acknowledge Vietnamese progress in religious freedom

(VOVworld) - UN Special Rapporteur Heiner Bielefeldt has praised Vietnam’s increasing number of religious followers, clerics, and worshiping temples. In the UN Human Rights Committee’s dialogue on religious freedom and beliefs earlier this week, the special rapporteur recommended Vietnam’s further improvement of laws on religious affairs and wished for more cooperation with Vietnam in his mission.

Another UN Special Rapporteur in charge of cultural issues Farida Shaheed recognized Vietnam’s major progress in the implementation of Millennium Development Goals as well as improvement in economic, cultural, and social rights, especially in remote and mountainous areas. She acknowledged improvement in legal framework and freedom of innovation for artists.
Vietnamese representatives at the dialogues rejected non-objective comments in the reports and confirmed Vietnam’s goodwill cooperation and dialogues with related parties to addresses different views in issues of bilateral concern
