(VOVworld) – Vietnam and Cambodia are playing a key role in the development of the Mekong River. Cambodia’s Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Lim Kean Hor said this while receiving Vietnamese Minister for Natural Resources and the Environment Nguyen Minh Quang in Phnom Penh yesterday.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on studying the impacts that hydro-electric dams have on the Mekong Delta, which sprawls across southern Vietnam and Cambodia. Minister Quang: "Vietnam and Cambodia will work with Laos and Thailand to assess impacts on the river which affect downstream areas. We will cooperate with one another to protect the river for the benefit of these countries".
