Vietnam-Cambodia final land border marker inaugurated

(VOVworld) – The governments of Vietnam and Cambodia on Sunday hosted a ceremony to inaugurate land border marker 314, the last one on the common land border between the two countries. The border marker in Vietnam’s Kien Giang province and Cambodia’s Kampot province is to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdec Hunsen co-chaired the ceremony, which demonstrate both governments’ determination to implement related agreements, paving the way for the completion of border demarcation. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung addressed the ceremony:“The event is of great significance as it marks the common victories of the two countries and nations, who are working together to build a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and mutual development. This will live up the expectations of the two peoples and create momentum to finalize land border demarcation”. 

Prime Minister Hunsen said the border demarcation’s results open a new chapter in the history of bilateral ties, contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty, and strengthening security and socio-economic development. He added the move also helps boost cooperation between countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region and Southeast Asia. Prime Minister Hunsen stressed: “I cordially declare that the building of this borderline is completely based on national and international laws and regulations, which acknowledge the borderline left from the French colonial time. These principles will lead to the completion of land border demarcation between Vietnam and Cambodia.”

In another development, both Prime Ministers on Sunday co-chaired a conference on investment cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in Ha Tien township, Kien Giang province. Speaking to more than 100 business people and investors, both leaders expressed their satisfaction over the good cooperative ties between the two countries. Vietnamese businesses are investing in 114 projects Cambodia with a total registered capital of more than 2.4 billion USD. Mr. Hunsen pledged to continue to expand economic cooperation with Vietnam and create favorable investment climate for businesses. Mr. Dung proposed that both sides continue to maintain regular dialogue between government agencies to boost investment and businesses.

During the conference, representatives from both countries signed a protocol on amendments and supplements to the 2001 Agreement on  Investment Encouragement and Protection between Vietnam and Cambodia, creating new legal foundation for further bilateral economic ties.
