The event was initiated by Guterres to unify awareness and promote strong political commitment to climate finance, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy transition. This is in the lead up to the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt in November.

In his message, the Prime Minister said Vietnam successfully fulfilled MDGs and is actively implementing the Sustainable Development Goals while at the same time holding jobs at different UN agencies. With its international responsibility as one of the countries heavily affected by climate change, Vietnam is determined to realize its international commitments including the Paris Agreement on Climate Change

"With a strong determination and effort from the international community, especially development partners, I believe that our effort to respond and improve resilience against climate change will become more effective. This is of great importance to Vietnam, creating trust, enhancing solidarity and international cooperation in climate change response to protect our planet," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister urged development partners to support Vietnam in technology transfer, preferential financial provision, and high-quality human resource training.
