Ambassador Nga made the statement at a high-level plenary meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York on Wednesday.
Nga insisted that Vietnam has achieved most of the MDGs and is in a shift period to sustainable development goals, with people being at the center of all policies.
Vietnam will combine international goals with its strategies, policies, and national development programs, especially the national strategy on sustainable development.
Ambassador Nga said to make the new development agenda a success; it requires the will and commitments of all countries, particularly the assistance of developed countries to developing countries, and the enhancement of ECOSOC’s role in carrying out sustainable development goals.
She said Vietnam will make more contributions to improving the council’s role and expressed her hope that member states will support Vietnam to join its membership during the 2016 – 2018 term.
