(VOVworld)- A seminar of the Expert Group on Security in Asia Pacific under the theme “Security for a people-centered ASEAN” opened in Da Nang City on Monday.

Vietnam is responsible for regional and global security

Organized by the Vietnamese Defense Ministry and the US Pacific Command, the seminar attracted 90 delegates from 10 ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Mongolia. Vietnam’s views and role as well as its responsibility for regional and global security were highlighted at the workshop. Major General Do Thanh Binh, Commander of the Commando Service of the Ministry of Defense said: “Terrorism, maritime security, and natural disasters are negatively impacting peace, stability and security in every country, region and the world. To address these problems, it’s necessary to promote cooperation and responsibility of each country, in which army plays an important role. The seminar creates an opportunity to share practical lessons and seek ways to cope with common challenges, for peace, development and prosperity of the region and the world at large”.

The delegates discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in dealing with non-traditional security threats and contribute to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
