(VOVworld) - Vietnam’s human rights report is a “vivid declaration of Vietnam’s pledge to respect human rights”. A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc presented the report at the UN Human Rights Council session early this month in Geneva, Switzerland, within the Council’s Universal Periodic Review mechanism, 2^nd cycle.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Deputy Foreign Minister Ngoc said the report outlined Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in implementing human rights during the past 4 years since the 1^st cycle ended in May 2009. The report said Vietnam has completed legal documents, regulations, mechanisms, and relevant policies for human rights’ protection. It also mentioned Vietnam’s efforts to implement 96 recommendations that it accepted in 2009. Deputy Minister Ngoc said that in the near future, Vietnam will improve human rights protection while accomplishing its other international responsibilities:
"On the national scale, it’s necessary for Vietnam to continue its efforts, solutions, policies, and resources to ensure its people’s rights while implementing voluntary commitments we made during our nomination for the UN Human Rights Council membership. On the international scale, as a member of the Council, Vietnam will pro-actively and responsibly participate in the council’s activities to improve its efficiency, transparency, and objectiveness, and at the same time promoting dialogues and cooperation within the Council.”

He said human rights’ promotion and protection is a long-term process that requires continuous efforts. Vietnam will continue to strongly reiterate its pledges on human rights’ protection in the international arena.
