(VOVworld) – 14 authors were honored on Wednesday in a script writing contest about innovations in population and family planning work in 2013. The contest was launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the General Office of Population and Family Planning to mark Vietnam’s Population Day on Thursday.
It helped to heighten people’s awareness of pre-marriage consultations and health check ups, care for the elderly, efforts to discourage early marriage and cousin marriage, and the impacts of sex imbalance at birth. Contest entries furnish material for communications about population and family planning.

Prize A was presented to Tran Thanh Ha of the Dong Thap Union of Literature and Arts for his play “Super ultrasound”. Winners of 2 B prizes, 3 C prizes, and 8 consolation prizes were also named.
Dr. Duong Quoc Trong, Director of the General Office of Population and Family Planning, spoke at the awards ceremony: "The 14 best entries featured more and more challenging issues of the population and family planning work. I am confident that these entries will be helpful communications tools to raise people’s awareness. I hope that Vietnam will make progress in this work."
The same day, Ho Chi Minh City's Population and Family Planning Division held a celebration and announced its achievement of its birth rate reduction target. The occasion was also marked in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, where 13 communes were praised for no 3rd child between 2011 and 2013.
