(VOVWORLD) - Peruvian Deputy Foreign Minister Nestor Popolizio said that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) has become a favorable space to promote economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
On the occasion of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week to be held in Da Nang City, Popolizio told a Vietnam News Agency reporter in South America that APEC’s strengthened trade and investment liberalization contributes to improving economic and social indicators of member countries.
As Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczunski will attend the APEC summit in Vietnam, Popolizio said Peru hopes APEC 2017 will work to reach the Bogor Target by 2020, which includes free trade and investment, trade facilitation, and enhancing economic and technical cooperation. The Deputy Foreign Minister added that Peru hopes Vietnam will approve implementation of APEC Vision 2020, initiated in Lima last year. Peru hoped that the leaders of APEC at the forthcoming summit will adopt the Lima Declaration on the FTAAP Action Plan, paving the way for establishing an Asia-Pacific Free Trade Agreement in the near future.
Deputy Foreign Minister Popolizio stressed that Vietnam’s hosting APEC 2017 right after Peru allows close coordination between their agencies to identify common interests in fisheries and combating drug trafficking.
