(VOVworld) - The fifth conference of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee has concluded with important decisions made. Anti-corruption measures were a primary focus of the conference. Huong Giang reports.
On the eve of the 5th conference, the Thang Long Club which comprises 1,600 former senior and middle-ranking officials of Hanoi and central agencies made proposals to the Politburo on measures to combat corruption. Duong Ngoc Son, a former Deputy State Inspector, says the club has organized 2 seminars in which 5 anti-corruption measures were proposed: "We’re pleased that our proposals match the Conference guidelines. The most important thing is to get the Politburo involved in fighting corruption. When the Central Steering Board for Anti-Corruption operates under the leadership of the Politburo including the Party General Secreaty, I believe the anti-corruption effort will be more effective".
At the conference, the Central Committee agreed to reestablish a Central Internal Affairs Commission to serve both party building and anti-corruption activities. Using this model, anti-corruption activities will be under the leadership of the Politburo and the Secretariat which will assure relative independence in law making and enforcement. Mai Thuc Lan is Former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly: "The model is practical, which will help to build trust among Party members. We hope this agency will produce more concrete results in the fight against corruption".
Fighting corruption will aid implementation of the Resolution on Party building. Luu Van Dat is on the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front: "It is reasonable to have the model managed by the Politburo as our political system is led by the Party, managed by the State and owned by the people. The anti-corruption effort will be more effective under the management of the Party".
