Green growth requires changing the prevailing mindset and lifestyle, developing green growth models, restructuring energy use and the economy, and revising institutions.
Localities have been asked to devise a local orientation and strategy, based on their specific local conditions and advantages, to realize the national green growth strategy.
Despite having an unfavorable climate for agricultural production, Ninh Thuan province has created sustainable agriculture models and applied technology to boost productivity, increase the quality of its agricultural products, and develop its fisheries.
Tran Quoc Nam, Chairman of the Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee, said the province created a green growth and sustainable development strategy 10 years ago. The province is now focused on renewable energy, clean energy, and shifting to green, clean, smart agriculture. Nam says the province has turned many infertile coastal areas into fertile ones with high added value.
'Ninh Thuan province is on the right track in developing clean, renewable energy. We will continue in this direction to promote growth. We have successfully converted 500 hectares of fallow coastal land into a fertile area for growing local specialties,' says Nam.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said Vietnam’s agriculture has gradually changed from a yield-based agriculture into a high-tech, responsible, ecological, and sustainable agriculture following new green agricultural models.
Mr. Hoan says, 'To promote green growth, we need to invest in improving the quality of agricultural products and building product, locality, and national brands. The brands, in return, will create added value for our products. We have long pursued the single-minded goal of increased productivity. Now we have to think differently – promote our development on the basis of sustainability and to this end, Vietnam’s 63 cities and provinces should work together.'
Agriculture-based localities are urged to adopt new agriculture models like smart agriculture, green agriculture, and ecological agriculture to create agricultural areas of “modern farmers” and “civilized rural areas”.
