Mountain, border provinces ready for Election Day

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese people nationwide are awaiting the election of deputies to the National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils this Sunday. Mountain and border localities have worked hard to prepare for the election.

Son La province, home to many ethnic minority groups, has officials fluent in ethnic languages and experienced in mass mobilization to provide election information. Communal police, border soldiers, and social organizations have also engaged in communication campaigns and delivery of election materials in ethnic languages.

Luong Xuan Truong, a Nang man in Cao Lau commune, said: “The communication campaign has helped me understand the election. We must cast ballots for talented, virtuous people who will work for national development.”

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading in a number cities and provinces, including mountain and border areas. Localities have prepared scenarios to control the pandemic and ensure all people’s right to vote.

Si Pa Phin commune of Nam Po district has 22 COVID-19 patients in quarantine. On Election Day, the district will arrange polling stations in quarantine areas where people can exercise their right to vote.

Nguyen Van Thang, Secretary of Dien Bien province’s Party Committee, said: “The success of the election depends on containing the COVID-19 pandemic. We have implemented strict measures to protect the health of the election staff and voters.”

In mountain and border areas, natural disasters and traffic safety are important issues. Local authorities have organized teams on duty around the clock to manage traffic and warn the public of natural disasters such as landslides and floods.
