Since its inception in 2016, the annual plum picking festival in Moc Chau has grown into a significant cultural and tourism event, enhancing the district's reputation for agricultural tourism.
The festival features eight teams from local villages and hamlets competing in plum picking, showcasing their harvests, engaging in sports and cultural activities, participating in folk games, and camping.
Nguyen Thi Huyen, a visitor from Hanoi, said: “This is the first time I’ve visited Son La and attended the plum picking festival. I’ve really enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Local farmers have put in a great effort to care for the plants, resulting in a bountiful harvest of big, juicy plums.”
Through eight editions of the festival, the Moc Chau plum brand has become increasingly well-known both domestically and internationally. This has created new, unique, and attractive tourism products for the Moc Chau National Tourism Site.
Vi Thi Chum, a plum grower in Tan Lap commune, said: “I’m very happy and I hope that Moc Chau plums will become more popular.”
Nguyen Thi Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of the Moc Chau district People’s Committee and Deputy Head of the Organizing Board said the fruit picking festival aims to promote clean agricultural production combined with environmental protection.
"This festival is an opportunity for Moc Chau to popularize its tourism products and attract more visitors," said Hoa.
Moc Chau is Vietnam’s largest concentrated plum growing area, with 3,500 hectares and an output of over 30,000 tonnes per year.
